I really like abstract art. That is probably why my photos always end up being people-devoid, right-angled, contrasty images. The way that some artists can make a painting be both abstract and recognisable at the same time really impresses me - when at best, such a picture just sits there shifting between the two states.
For instance, take a look at Matisse's Harmony in Red or Miro's Hand Catching a Bird. At first Matisse's painting doesn't seem abstract, but after a while the surfaces and patterns begin to take over.
